Connect Group delivered rotating equipment maintenance and replacement scopes across multiple crusher and surge apron feeder systems at Syncrude North Mine – Base Plant.
The projects included maintenance, rebuild, and replacement activities on critical material handling equipment supporting mining and slurry preparation operations. Scope execution included apron feeder inspections, replacement of worn mechanical components, head shaft replacement activities, chain and rail system maintenance, drive component handling, structural repairs, and alignment verification.
The 2025 DRC 10 head shaft replacement required detailed outage planning, heavy lift coordination, precision mechanical alignment, and controlled installation sequencing to safely remove and replace the shaft assembly within the outage schedule.
CGI coordinated closely with operations and maintenance teams while executing within active brownfield environments with strict safety, quality, and schedule requirements. Work was supported by experienced field leadership, heavy mechanical crews, rigging specialists, and QA/QC personnel to ensure reliable execution and return-to-service.
These projects highlight Connect Group’s capability to support large-scale rotating equipment maintenance programs across multiple operating trains while maintaining execution certainty in critical mining operations.
Outcome:
✔ Multiple apron feeder maintenance and rebuild scopes completed
✔ Head shaft replacement executed safely and within outage constraints
✔ Mechanical alignment and reinstatement supported reliable startup
✔ Coordinated heavy mechanical and rigging execution across multiple work fronts
✔ Critical mining and material handling systems restored to operation
