Suncor South Tank Farm: 20D-56

Connect Group executed a full inspection, cleaning, and repair scope for Tank 20D-56 to restore tank integrity and support safe ongoing operation.

The project began with controlled tank draining into Tank 20D-15, followed by hazardous waste removal and internal tank cleaning to prepare the vessel for inspection in accordance with API 653 standards. CGI provided full outage support including blinding, gas detection, ventilation, and supplied air systems to ensure safe confined-space entry and execution.

Following inspection, structural and mechanical repairs were completed including floor plate repairs, annular plate replacement, internal coating remediation, and inspection and potential repair of the internal floating roof (IFR). The scope also included removal of the existing asphalt apron and installation of a new concrete apron with improved drainage around the tank.

Waste handling strategies were coordinated to support either pond disposal or offsite transport to approved disposal facilities. After completion of repairs and inspection verification, the system was safely reinstated through controlled de-blinding and return to service.

Outcome:
✔ API 653 inspection and tank integrity verification
✔ Floor, annular, and internal coating repairs completed
✔ IFR inspection and repair scope addressed
✔ Concrete containment apron installed with drainage improvements
✔ Safe confined-space outage execution with full ventilation and gas monitoring
