Connect Group executed a tank roof inspection, access, and repair scope at Suncor’s East Tank Farm to restore roof system integrity and support continued reliable operation. The project began with mobilization of cranes, man basket access, fall restraint systems, supplied air infrastructure, and rooftop work controls to safely access the affected tank roof areas. Initial activities included removal of cladding around the painter’s post, setup of engineered tie-off points, inspection port cutting, and coordination of MT and UT testing to verify roof plate condition, exposed steel thickness, and localized repair requirements before proceeding with repair work.
Following inspection and QA review, the team removed damaged cladding, insulation, flashing, and deteriorated sealant from multiple roof areas. Work included cleanup and preparation of exposed roof plate surfaces, verification of insulation moisture conditions, closure of sidewall inspection openings, and detailed preparation of doghouses, roof radius transitions, and center cap components for reinstatement. Throughout execution, CGI coordinated crane and material basket support, continuous supplied-air systems, and safe material handling to maintain productivity while working at height in variable weather conditions.
Repair and reinstatement activities included installation of new insulation, cladding panels, transition pieces, flashing, center cap components, and re-sealing of all doghouses and roof joints. The team also completed rivet replacement, overlap repairs, painter’s post cladding reinstatement, and lightning rod reinstallation to return the roof system to a fully restored condition.
The project was completed with final QA walkdowns, cleanup, and full demobilization, delivering a safe and organized execution of a complex roof repair scope in an active operating environment.
